Eagle Rock shooter remains at large

EAGLE ROCK — Police are looking for a teenage suspect who opened fire at two rival gang members, one of whom was struck in the back, during a Wednesday night shooting near the Yosemite Recreation Center.

The shooting took place at about 6:20 p.m. near Yosemite Drive and La Roda Avenue after the two victims, who police say are believed to be Avenues gang members,  approached the suspect and told him “this is Avenues hood,” said Lt. Ryan Schatz with the LAPD Northeast Division.  The suspect, believed to be a member of the Sur 13 gang, then began shooting, striking one victim, who remains in stable condition at a hospital.

The suspect is described as a 15- to 17-year-old Latino. The investigation found bullet casings and fresh Sur 13 tagging where the shooting occurred.

One resident said she saw paramedics providing assistance inside the recreation center gym before the victim was wheeled out of the building and into an ambulance.  “The victim appeared to be young and clean cut wearing gym clothing,” she said in an email.
