Gang unit investigating Highland Park shooting that left one man injured

By BARRY LANK

HIGHLAND PARK — The police gang unit is now investigating Friday’s shooting near North Figueroa Street and Avenue 54, the Los Angeles Police Department said this morning. The victim, a Latino man in his 20s, is in stable condition, with a shattered bone in his right leg.

Police said the victim, who was transported to a  hospital,  has not been cooperating with the investigation. Police have no description of the suspect or suspects, who fled the scene and are still at large.

The victim was in a parking lot on the 5400 block of North Figueroa late in the afternoon when he heard three shots and realized he’d been struck in the leg, police said. Investigators at the scene recover casings for .380-caliber bullets.

Police say a bullet caused a comminuted fracture to the victim’s right tibia.
