Boyle Heights shooting leaves man wounded in stomach

BOYLE HEIGHTS —  Police are investigating the Sunday night shooting of a man in the stomach as he was on a Boyle Heights street.

Police were called to the scene on Cesar Chavez Avenue near Soto Street at around 10:30 p.m. They found the victim with a gunshot wound to his stomach, said Detective Zolezzi with LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division.

The victim, a Latino in his late 20s, was transported to the hospital and remains in stable condition, said Zolezzi.

Zolezzi said police currently do not have any information on who might have shot the victim or what their motive. The victim is not a gang member, police are not ruling out gangs when it comes to pinpointing a suspect because of the high volume of gang activity in the area, Zolezzi said.
