L.A. Marathon passes through Echo Park & Silver Lake

Marathon runner passing through Echo Park | Photo by Thomas DeBoe

Thousands of runners poured through the streets of Echo Park and Silver Lake this morning for the 2017 L.A. Marathon. After starting at Dodger Stadium, the marathoners flooded into Downtown before turning west on their way to the finish line in Santa Monica. Residents cheered and photographed the runners as they passed by Echo Park Lake and then headed westbound on Sunset Boulevard into Silver Lake.

Streets in both neighborhoods are expected to reopen before noon, if not earlier in many cases, but bus service could remain disrupted and delay for much of the day.

Update: Elish Barno of Kenya was the first male runner to cross the finish line with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes and 53 seconds. The first female marathoner to finish, Hellen Jepkurgat, also of Kenya, had a time 2 hours, 34 minutes and 23 seconds.

  1. Was anyone else in silver lake startled out of their sleep by pounding amplified music from Dodger Stadium? 5:00 freaking AM in the MORNING!! For an hour!!
I was able to have it confirmed by the pr group handling the morning event. I called them at 5:15am and I was told I was not the first call. They couldn’t do anything about it and suggested I call the LAPD, which I did. (non emergency number).
Another “f$#* you” from Garcetti who only cares about events and his “hip” global image and doesn’t give a crap about Angelenos.
If you did hear the music and wasn’t happy about it, , lodge a complaint with your council office, mayors office and CD1 Cedillo’s office.

    • you really went through all that trouble to complain about loud music? #firstworldproblems

    • Jenny, Did you get any reply or action from LAPD? I’ve found that they do little or nothing even late at night, into early morning, despite supposed noise laws.

    • Jenny needs to take a enormous chill pill.

      • Hello MinFran:
Well… nothing from LAPD but received apologies from council district offices and was told I was among a ton of complaints. All plan to look into it to avoid same problem next year.
For those who think it was a waste of time… there are those who do and those who sit back and let others do. Think about it.

      • Why all the snark? I sure as heck wouldn’t want loud amplified music at 5am!

  2. Thanks to all photographers for pictures and videos!

  3. I remember during the Guns & Roses concert last summer I could hear the music while on Lemoyne and Baxter. But, I didn’t hear any music at 5am yesterday!

  4. The Eastsider had a story about the illegal alien whose arrested was captured by his daughter on her cell phone. That daughter just completed the LA Marathon!
