Police shoot Silver Lake woman armed with rifle [update]

SILVER LAKE — A standoff with a “combative woman” ended tonight when she was shot by police after she emerged from a residence armed with a rifle, according to the LAPD.

The standoff began at about 3:30 p.m. when police were called to the 1300 block of Edgecliff Drive, said Mike Lopez with LAPD Media Relations.  When the woman came out with the gun, officers fired a non-lethal “bean bag” device that failed to subdue her. That’s when police opened fire with guns, striking the woman, Lopez said. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.

No officers were injured.

Lopez did not have information when the woman was shot but a Twitter user reported hearing gunfire at about 6 pm.

No further details were available from the LAPD.

  1. I believe the location was actually on Edgecliffe between Marcia and Winslow. I walked by a house there around 4 pm today, on the east side of the street and saw an officer standing ready outside a house with an assault rifle. Muliple cars and several officers were farther north up the road, which was blocked to traffic.

  2. The LAPD Command Post just NOW left our street on Marcia. Bright lights and loud noise all night.

  3. Yep, on Edgecliffe between Winslow and Marcia. Place was crawling with news vans and reporters taking comments from clueless millenials.
