EAST LOS ANGELES — One man was fatally shot this afternoon near Blanchard Street and Geraghty Avenue.
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department were called in at about 4:22 pm.
Officials provided no other details in an advisory but ABC 7 posted an aerial photo on Twitter of a white pickup truck that crashed into a wall in front of a home near the scene of the shooting.
It’s the third killing of the year in unincorporated East Los Angeles, according to the L.A. Times.
Update: Deputies who were responding to the report of a traffic collision discovered that the driver, a male Latino, suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso, said an LASD update. “Detectives learned the victim was driving near the intersection of Blanchard Street and Geraghty Street, when he exchanged words with the suspect, who was on foot. The suspect produced a handgun and opened fire, striking the victim in the upper torso area. The victim was able to maneuver his vehicle westbound on Blanchard Street to Gage Avenue, where he collided with a brick wall.”
The victim did of his injuries after being taken to a hospital.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, in his early 20s.
