Morning Report

  • A fire hydrant was sheared off and four parked cars damaged after police said a driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed in the 1300 block of Cypress Avenue in Cypress Park. CBS 2
  • Tuition for in-state students at Cal State L.A. and other CSU campuses would rise 5% — the first increase in six years — under a proposal that will be voted on today by college trustees. L.A. Times
  • Rep Adam Schiff, whose 28th Congressional District includes Atwater Village, Echo Park, and Silver Lake, was in the spotlight this week for his opening statement and questions during a nationally televised congressional hearing on Russian involvement in last year’s presidential campaign. The L.A. Times noted that Schiff, who is the senior Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee,  relied on his skills as a former prosecutor to layout his case of purported connections between Trump aides and Russian officials. With a manner that is polite but persistent, the New York Times said,  “As attack dogs go, Representative Adam B. Schiff, Democrat from California, is more labradoodle than Doberman, his partisanship disguised by a thick fur of preparation, modulated locution and gentle accusations.”

  1. Kudos to Adam Shiff for his role in the Comey hearing! And on the House Intelligence committee in general.

While Devin Nunes has been unprepared and an absolute embarrassment, Shiff has stood up for the country with intelligence and deep knowledge.

  2. It appears that Adam Schiff may be raising his profile in the case that DiFi decides not to run for Senator in 2018. She is now the oldest person in the Senate — 83.

Hey that crash happened a block from where I live! The car is still there as of 2pm
