Suspect killed in police-involved Boyle Heights shooting

By BARRY LANK

BOYLE HEIGHTS — A suspect was killed early this morning in a shooting at the Soto Street Gold Line Station in which a police officer was involved.

The fire department pronounced the suspect dead at the scene. No police officers were injured, the LAPD said.

Police say the incident occurred just after midnight, early Saturday morning, at East 1st and Soto streets, about three blocks from the Hollenbeck police station.  A video posted by OnSceneTV shows a body covered with a sheet next to the entrance of the underground station. Officers had the area sealed off.

KTLA reports that officers patrolling the area arrived at the scene after hearing gunshots. They attempted to stop a man on the sidewalk when the shooting took place.

Gold Line trains were not stopping at the Soto station this morning, Metro said on Twitter. Passengers were being advised to take bus shuttles or Line 30.
