Boyle Heights area shooting leaves two injured

Police continue to search for the suspect in the shooting of two people this morning in the Boyle Heights area near the Ramona Gardens housing project.

LAPD Hollenbeck Division officers responded to calls of a shooting and an assault with a deadly weapon at about 6:45 a.m. They arrived to find one man in the street with gunshot wounds near Medford and Ricardo Streets, said Officer Tony Im with LAPD media relations.

Another victim has also been struck, but details are unclear, said Im. Both victims have been transported to the hospital and their conditions are unknown.

The suspect, a white male with black hair, was seen with a handgun and driving a newer model Nissan in an unknown direction, said Im.

The shooting took place within walking distance of the Ramona Gardens housing project to the east and L.A. County USC Medical Center to the west.
