SILVER LAKE —  A man is in stable condition tonight after being shot in the face following an argument near Kent and Coronado streets, police said.

The victim was sitting on a stairwell when he  became involved in a verbal dispute with someone inside a vehicle that had pulled up to the location, said Lt. Nate Williams with the LAPD Rampart Division.  The suspect then fired several times from the vehicle and remains at large, Williams said.  He had no further details about the shooting, which took place at about 3:30 p.m.

Resident Anne Hars said one of her neighbors assisted the victim, who she said was an immigrant day laborer who is not involved in gang activity.  She said a white van was seen pulling up to the intersection before the shooting.

This story has been updated with information about the victim.
