Voters head to polls today in 34th Congressional District election

Today’s primary election for the 34th Congressional District will present a long list of choices for voters to consider: there are 23 candidates on the ballot plus a write-in contender as well.

The special election was announced in January after Rep. Xavier Becerra was appointed to serve as state attorney general,  prompting a crowd of candidates to run for Congress. If none of today’s candidates wins a majority of the vote, a likely outcome,  the two top vote getters will compete in a runoff on June 6.

The 34th Congressional District  includes Boyle Heights, City Terrace, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, Northeast L.A., southern Echo Park and other communities
