All Star Saturday in Echo Park: Pharrell, Billy Joel & Kid Cudi

ECHO PARK — A trio of stars — Pharrell, Billy Joel & Kid Cudi — attracted attention across Echo Park late this afternoon and tonight.

Many Echo Park streets were gridlocked early this evening as tens of thousands of fans headed to Dodger Stadium to attend a Billy Joel concert (Pink and Axl Rose also joined in the performance). The concert earned raves on social media – “Billy Joel at Dodger Stadium. Living the dream” — but also prompted traffic warnings — “Echo Park Ave should still be avoided” — from Waze.

Meanwhile, about a half mile west of the ballpark, Laveta Terrace was blocked for the filming of a Pharrell Williams video, which had the street closed for most of the day. The pop star was filmed running down the palm lined street (thanks to actor Chad Christopher for the video) amid wrecked cars brought in for the shoot. Pharrell took a break to take a photo with rapper Kid Cudi on the street.

And that’s Saturday’s celebrity watch from Echo Park.

  1. I grew up here in the late 60’s to the mid 70’s. Lived on Ridge Way right off Laveta Terrace. Back then we had Adam-12 ,Alfred Hitchcock and CHIP’S episodes filmed in our area. On the corner of Sunset Blvd and Laveta Terrace sits a burger shop named Patra’s Burgers which I loved as a kid and when ever I’m in the area I take my family and friends there. Glad to see that my childhood neighborhood is still on the map for Hollywood actors and Music performers. Such a good feeling and great memories come over me when I see my childhood streets. Wish we never left!

  2. Is it me or is Billy Joel starting to look like Darth Vader?
