Decomposed body found in Griffith Park [updated]

Body was found near Fern Dell entrance to Griffith Park


LOS FELIZ — A decomposed body was found by park rangers Monday night in Griffith Park, said Sgt. Roberto Alaniz with LAPD Northeast Division.

The body, described as that of a transient, was found in the brush near the Ferndell entrance of the park, off of Los Feliz Boulevard, at about 7 pm, Alaniz said. Police believe the body had been there for over a month and was badly decomposed. The age and gender of the body are unknown at this time, said Alaniz

Foul play is not suspected in the death of the the transient. An investigation is underway.

Update: Later news reports indicate that the body was found by two hikers on the northern end of the Ferndell area near Parking Lot  9.
