- A suspected drunk driver was taken into custody earlier this week after a hitting a pedestrian and numerous parked cars on Descanso Drive. The driver was headed westbound on Descanso Drive when he struck a woman in the crosswalk at about 10 pm on Wednesday, said Officer Chau with LAPD Central Traffic Division. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and struck 4 parked cars. The victim received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The driver, in his mid-30s, was taken into custody for a felony DUI, said Chau. One Eastsider reader said that the stop sign at Descanso and Larissa Drive near the crash scene is often ignored.
- An L.A. Times editorial says that 1st District Councilmember Gil Cedillo, who was reelected to office in last Tuesday’s runoff election, needs “to step up and be a leader in trying to solve L.A.’s housing shortage.”
- Cal State L.A. will award its highest honor — the Presidential Medallion — to alumnus George L. Pla during commencement ceremonies on May 20. Pla, who grew up in Boyle Heights and was the son of an immigrant construction worker, founded a large construction and engineering management firm and serves on numerous civic and nonprofit boards
