Morning Report

  • An estimated 70 firefighters assisted by water-dropping helicopters extinguished a brush fire on Tuesday night that burned about a quarter-acre in the southern portion of Griffith Park near Fern Dell Road. L.A. Times
  • The city would be forced to increase contributions to its pension funds as the rate of return on the two funds is expected to decline over the next 10 years.   Pension and retiree health benefits already cost the city about $1 billion a year but every quarter-percentage drop in the rate of return  would require to spend an additional $100 million annually.
