Grass fire breaks out in Montecito Heights area; Metro to “re-imagine” bus service; East L.A Ska goes global

  • A grass fire in the Montecito Heights area Monday night burned nearly 1.5-acres before fire crews on the ground, assisted by water-dropping helicopters, brought the blaze under control in about 40 minutes, reports the LAFD.  The fire  was about  mile from a blaze that broke out early Sunday morning in Debs Park. No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in either blaze. LAFD
  • Metro is beginning a two-year-long effort to “re-imagine” the agency bus system and come up with solutions to reverse a steady decline in ridership. Bus ridership in April, for example, was down 18% from the April 2015. “We’re misaligned with current travel demands” said a top agency official. L.A. Times
  • Two East L.A. bands — The Delirians and The Steady 45s — recently launched a European tour, bringing their brand of reggae, ska and rocksteady to an international audience. “The music of these two East L.A. bands is studied, energetic and performed with passion,” says the L.A. Weekly.
