Morning Report

  • While jazz clubs have all but disappeared in Los Angeles, The Bootleg Theater in Echo Park and the ETA bar in Highland Park have emerged as among the few spaces showcasing a new generation of musicians, reports the L.A. Weekly. “The jazz is cutting-edge and compelling, and the artists who make the music receive little to no compensation, which seems to be the currently accepted tradeoff for showcasing their new works.”
  • One of the actresses who appeared as a teenage witch in the 1996 film The Craft  is now reading tarot cards for $40 at the House of Intuition in Echo Park. L.A. Weekly
  • L.A. County’s median home sales price hit $550,000 in April — matching the peak price of a decade ago before the housing market fell into five-year-long decline. However, when taking inflation into account, the county’s mean sales price is still more than 12% below the peak reached a decade ago. L.A.Times
