LAFD rescues men from steep cliff near Echo Park

ECHO PARK –– Firefighters rescued two men tonight who had become stranded near the top of a tall cliff near Dodger Stadium.

The hikers had become stuck about one-third way down the cliffs that tower over the south side of Stadium Way near Lilac Terrace, about a block south of the ballpark property.  With a spotlight shining on them from an LAFD chopper, members of the department’s Urban Search & Rescue Team were lowered down the cliff on ropes to help lift and carry the hikers up the hill.

Dirt and rocks tumbled down the cliff as a firefighter struggled to make it to the top with one of the hikers in tow.

The rescue was completed at about 10:30 pm. The two young males were not injured, according to the LAFD.
