Signs of change at Sunset and Alvarado

The former Pizza Buona at the southwest corner of Sunset and Alvarado

The new Cosa Buona now fills the same space

ECHO PARK —  Get ready Echo Park foodies, Cosa Buona, which has been billed as one of this year’s most highly anticipated new restaurants, is supposed to open to the public on Thursday. At least that’s the plan for now, according to one restaurant staff member.

The new pizzeria replaces Pizza Buona, which operated at the same spot for more than 50 years until it was forced out in the wake of a steep rent increase.  Pizza Buona is now located about a block south on Alvarado.

Back at the southwest corner of Alvarado and Sunset, a new neon Cosa Buona sign, which replaced the black-and-white plastic Pizza Buona sign, was dark Monday night. But inside, the newly remodeled dining room featuring shiny tiled walls and a wood ceiling was abuzz during a soft opening. The relatively short menu by Zack Pollack of Silver Lake’s acclaimed Alimento features pizzas (ranging from pepperoni to white clam) as well as vegetable fritto misto, chicken wings and baby octopus arrabbiata.

  1. This place looks super awesome but are they going to keep those red neon pizza buona signs? Because that’s gonna be super confusing

  2. That’s super messed up to essentially steal the name of the prior place. And keeping the pizza buona signs up.

  3. Parking is going to get even worse and then even worse after Mohawk Collective opens up. We need permit parking in the area.

  4. They are literally stealing the Pizza Buona name. How unoriginal and shame on them.

      Totally agree.
The OG Pizza Buona people were cool and don’t deserve this treatment. Many will be looking for the new location of the real Pizza Buona down Alvarado and see this place and go there instead. These new folks are taking money out of their pockets. SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED!!!!

looking forward to this.. welcome to the neighborhood.

  6. I will continue to support the OG, Pizza Buona, and I’ll go to Casa Buona when I want to get a bit fancier.

  7. Those new customers look scary

  8. a facebook page was started for them to take down the signs…
