EAGLE ROCK —   A tip from a resident helped officers capture a wanted suspect late this afternoon following a search that saw police close major streets as an LAPD helicopter circled overhead.

The search for the male suspect began after he was spotted by officers and fled through the neighborhood, said Sgt. C. Gomez with the LAPD Northeast Division. After being tipped off by a resident, officers and police dogs concentrated their search on an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Merton Avenue, where the suspect was apprehended without incident, Gomez said. The suspect had been wanted for violating probation in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon case.

The incident was over by about 5 pm, according to police scanner reports.

Residents on Twitter said that Colorado and Eagle Rock boulevards were blocked for a time during the search.
