Morning Report

  • A Toonerville gang member from Atwater Village plead guilty to racketeering conspiracy, drug trafficking and other charges for his role in a Mexican Mafia-controlled network of gangs, reports MyNewsLA. Federal prosecutors said that Giovanni “Suspect” Olvera, who faces a 15-1/2 prison sentence, distributed drugs and collected “taxes” from gangs active in Atwater, Elysian Valley, Glendale and Northeast L.A. The 26-year-old Olvera was one of 15 defendants named in a 2015 federal racketeering indictment that describes how an imprisoned Mexican Mafia member forged a truce that unified three formerly rival gangs — Frogtown, Toonerville and Rascals — to control drug trafficking, extortion and violent crime in the gang territory.
  • A pair of F-15 fighter jets roared across the skies over Echo Park and Northeast L.A. on Thursday afternoon, surprising many residents as well as local officials. Those planes will be back next week because they were training for a July 4th flyover at Dodger Stadium. L.A. Times
  • A Cal State L.A. kinesiology student was awarded $210,000 after a federal decided in his favor in an excessive-use-of-force lawsuit against an off-duty LAPD officer. L.A. Times
  • The LAPD is planning to set up a DUI checkpoint tonight, June 30, in Highland Park near Figueroa Street and York Boulevard. LAPD

Those gangs are sooo old brah. All were neighborhoods west of Glendale, in the margins of the LA River. Welcome to the neighborhood New-RealMonty. Where did you come from? The land of the Outsiders? The Socs? Did you know Ponyboy or Soda Pop? Ever a Greaser? That’s so Warner Brothers if you . . . Your so funny

      • The Main Spoon

        of * you . . .

        • We know why you call yourself main spoon. Incoherent ramblings in every post. Get help

Nah brah, I know this part of town too well to have a say on a few lame-o comments, deal wth it. If you like we can talk about it over a game of pool at the short stop every Sunday, it’s a really cool socializing spot. I’m the only transparent guy on this thing. I’m Real, plus I would look forward to running you off the table real quick. No keyboards, just cues.

Someone has been watching WAY too much Blood In Blood Out. Also “you’re” not “your.”

      • lmao, Spoon “brah”, why are you so angry? Are you part of the looneytoon crew? Upset that rich hipsters own your turf now? Seek therapy my man.

  2. The jets testing their flight were incredibly loud and seemed very low, when they went over our house in Echo Park. Due to all the illegal neighborhood fireworks we may not hear them when they come over on July 4th.

That is unless LAPD keeps their promise: “…we will be enforcing the illegal use of fireworks with citations and seizures of the items (fireworks).

We will be training our officers and hope to influence them in taking proactive efforts in stopping the use of fireworks, which, as you know, are illegal to possess or use in the City of Los Angeles.”. LAPD Captain Phillip Smith
