Highland Park car-to-car shooting leaves driver wounded

HIGHLAND PARK — Police are searching for two suspects in connection with a car-to-car shooting near Sycamore Grove Park that left one man injured early this morning.

The incident began at about 2 a.m. when two men drove up and asked the victim what gang he was from while he sat in his car talking to his girlfriend, who was on the sidewalk, said Sgt. Robert Alaniz with LAPD’s Northeast Division. The victim, a 20-year-old Latino male, ignored the suspects.

The suspects later caught up with him after the victim halted his vehicle at a stop sign at Figueroa Street and Avenue 49. The suspects, a white male and a Latino male, fired three rounds from their vehicle into the victim’s car, striking him once in the arm, said Alaniz. The suspects drove off in an unknown direction in a white Honda Accord.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he was treated. He is not believed to be in a gang, said Alaniz.
