- Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez won Tuesday’s 34th Congressional District runoff election against attorney Robert Lee Ahn with about 60% of the vote, according to unofficial results. Gomez won strong support in Boyle Heights and Northeast L.A. while Ahn did well in Koreatown. Gomez, who lives in Eagle Rock, will replace Xavier Becerra, who was appointed to state Attorney General earlier this year. L.A. Times & KPCC
- A proposed state law would prevent Caltrans from raising the rent on 460 homes the agency owns along the route of the 710 Freeway extension once proposed to pass through El Sereno, Pasadena and South Pasadena. Proponents of the law say Caltrans annual rent increases of 21% are interfering with efforts to sell the properties to long-time tenants. Whittier Daily News
