East Los Angeles is in on the fried chicken fad with the coming of Phat Birds, Eater L.A. reports. According to the company description on Yelp, the free-range birds are brined overnight, then seasoned and mixed with several types of flour and corn starch. Adding to the down-home experience are homemade pickles, self-cured bacon and sides made with mostly organic ingredients.
Prior to its brick-and-mortar spot, the brand was a pop-up concept that appeared around town, including the now closed TiGeorges’ Haitian Cuisine. Business hours are limited, though, with doors open from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the time being. Phat Birds is located in the 4700 block of 3rd Street in East Los Angeles.
