Shepard Fairey’s Subliminal Projects turns 21

ECHO PARK —   In the mid 1990s artist Shepard Fairey and partners formed a skateboard and apparel company that featured collaborations with other artists. From boards and t-shirts, the company named Subliminal expanded into fine art prints and exhibitions. On Saturday, June 3, Subliminal Projects celebrates 21 years of those collaborations with a salon-style group show featuring 50 artists.

The show, titled TWENTY-ONE, will feature mixed media works  as well as past print and product collaborations. “TWENTY-ONE seeks to evoke the types of DIY style shows, which were the bedrock of Subliminal’s early exhibitions, showcasing the artists that are fundamental to the gallery’s past, present, and future,” says a gallery statement.

An opening reception for TWENTY-ONE will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 7 pm to 10 pm. The exhibit will be on display from June 3 – July 15.

Subliminal Projects is located 1331 Sunset Boulevard.
