Firefighters extinguish grass fire near Boyle Heights homes

Grass fire broke out on Mott Street in Boyle Heights
BOYLE HEIGHTS — Firefighters knocked down a small brush fire this afternoon that at one point threatened homes near the 5 Freeway.

A shed occupied by two persons sustained moderate damage but there were no reports of injuries, the L.A. Fire Department said on Twitter.

The fire began at about 1:40 pm near the 1100 block of S. Mott Street, As firefighters defended a row of homes, other crews were deployed to the grass fire, preventing it from spreading to other structures located next to a transition road from the southbound 5.
