New Echo Park apartment building coming to Sunset

ECHO PARK — Permits have been issued to build a 5-unit, 4-story apartment building at 1492 Sunset Boulevard, according to Building and Safety records.

That site is current an empty lot next to the mini-mall that contains Sunset Beer and Beauty Box salon. Several small 1920s cottages were bulldozed in 2015 in preparation for development.

In addition to the building permit, the city also issued a permit to allow for grading and the removal of 2,100 cubic-yards of dirt.

The Eastsider is seeking more information about when the project will be completed and other details.

The apartment complex is one of several  planned and recently completed residential projects for Sunset Boulevard, which is primarily a commercial street. Across the street from this project, Champion Real Estate Company is planning to convert the A Grocery Warehouse, a longtime Asian market, and other adjacent buildings into a mixed-use retail and residential development.

  1. Seems like a missed opportunity to have some commercial in there as well.

    • The city makes it too much of a pain to add commercial for small projects – particularly on a hillside. Parking is the main issue – and getting the disabled to the parking even worse….

  2. Echo park is starting to look like Van Nuys.

  3. 4 stories and only 5 units? The land does look small.
