New Starbucks in the works near L.A. County-USC hospital

Former Burger King to become a Starbucks

LINCOLN HEIGHTS –– Starbucks is planning to convert a Burger King into a drive-thru coffee shop on the border of Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights.

Starbucks has applied for a city business license and has requested that the Planning Department allow it to operate a drive-thru from 5 am to midnight daily at the northeast corner of Marengo and Cornwell streets, which is a block away from the giant hospital campus.

The Eastsider has asked Starbucks for more details about the store.

If Starbucks is successful, it will be the second time it has taken over a Burger King in the area. In 2014, a former Burger King reopened as a Starbucks at the corner of Olympic Boulevard and Soto Street in Boyle Heights.

  1. Yes! I’ve been asking or this for year, I live two blocks away and this is going to make traffic worse in the mornings, but its worth it for some good coffee.

  2. It’s not only going to make traffic worse in the mornings, it’s going to be really bad all day as well. I suppose in terms of location, this is a great spot for Starbucks, but the people who live in the surrounding area are going to suffer.

    • Are you serious??? LA has the worst traffic in the country and you are concerned about additional traffic due to a Starbucks? If you don’t want to live around traffic, move somewhere else because it’s only going to get worse.

PS- I’m not trying to be rude or insensitive – it’s just the reality of living in LA.

  3. Great More Tweakers in our town. lol

  4. This would be a good addition, the Starbucks at the Keck hospital has such lousy service I would welcome a new one. What, the Burger King does not contribute to traffic? Then it must not be of much use to the community.

Hurray! Lets get a Trader Joes next!

  6. Of course everyone hoorays for a Starbucks in their neighborhood, but one little hipster coffee spot opens up on c Chavez everyone starts crying. Lol.
