Coffee will once again be brewing at El Sereno’s Holy Grounds

EL SERENOHoly Grounds Coffee and Tea plans to reopen later this month after being shut down since last October when a car crashed into the front of the Alhambra Avenue business.

The cafe was closed when the crash took place, and no one was hurt. But making the necessary repairs was a long and costly process that involved a fundraiser.  The owners had initially said they had planned to reopen last February. But while Holy Ground  hosted events in its patio, the cafe itself had remained closed.

Holy Grounds will reopen on August 21, said Mark Alexzandr with the cafe. “After nine months of reconstruction, we are pleased to go back to doing what we do best.”

In addition to repairing the facade and adding a pair of octagonal windows, the interior of Holy Grounds will include a refrigerated pastry case, reorganized barista station and other changes, Alexzandr said.

Last year’s crash was one of several collisions — including two fatal incidents — that prompted officials to look at ways to improve traffic and pedestrian safety along Alhambra Avenue.
