  • 13th District Councilman Mitch O’Farrell prevailed in his two-year effort to create an Indigenous Peoples’ Day at City Hall, reports The L.A.Times. O’Farrell, who represents Atwater Village, Echo Park and other neighborhoods, succeeded in having the day replace Columbus Day on the city calendar.
  • The Lincoln Heights dad  who was picked up by ICE agents six months ago as he was dropping his daughters off at school has been freed from a detention center after posting bond.  Romulo Avelica-Gonzalez, who is in the country illegally, now faces a potentially years-long wait before an immigration court hears his case to remain in the U.S.  L.A.   • A representative from the L.A. Department of Water and Power is scheduled to appear next week before a committee of the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council to discuss the recent power outages that have hit the neighborhood. SLNC
