Power outage in Silver Lake

UPDATE @ 9:06 PM: About 5,000 LADWP customers in Los Feliz and Silver Lake are without power tonight as the agency struggles to restore service.

Twitter users said power began failing at about 2 p.m. and, by the late afternoon and early evening, an estimated 3,000 customers were without power, according to an LADWP spokeswoman.

There were  reports of worse than usual traffic congestion as some traffic signals went out during the evening commute. Eastsider readers said that power appeared to be out north and south of Los Feliz Boulevard and along Rowena Avenue.

By about 7 p.m. it looked like LADWP crews had things under control,  with electrical service having been restored to all but about 120 customers. But for some unexplained reason, the power failed again and the outage worsened tonight

“We are working hard to determine what happened,” the LADWP tweeted at 8:48 pm. “It could take several more hrs to restore.”

Update @ 11:20 PM:  LADWP says that the number of customers without power has been reduced to about 1,200 in Los Feliz shortly after 11 pm. Two of three circuits had been repaired, the agency said on Twitter.

I was shopping in the Mayfair when it went dark for about 10 seconds. I guess the Gelsons people put a backup generator in because everything went back to normal. Only when I hit the streets did I know the whole neighborhood was out. Don’t know if TJ was dark. Say Cheeze was. Rowena was backed up as normal, lights or none.

Power went out around 1. Where is the help?

  3. It’s out again(8pm on the dot) in silverlake/frogtown.

  4. I had a scary situation at the intersection of Fletcher and Ripple, where the signal was showing green for my direction, but was out for everyone else. I thought everything was normal so I cruised through the intersection and barely saw a dude crossing the street in front of me until the last second.
