Two men were shot in separate incidents overnight in Boyle Heights and El Sereno, with each man being fired upon by someone who got out of a vehicle.
LAPD Lt. Marla Ciuffetelli of the Hollenbeck Division said there is no indication that the incidents were connected.
The first incident occurred at 10:05 p.m. on Saturday in the 3500 block of Amethyst Street in El Sereno. The victim, a Latino man in his 40s, was leaving a party nearby when he was approached by a dark van. Another Latino man got out of the the van and shot the victim four times, hitting him in the chest.
The victim survived, and is in stable condition. A spokesperson at LAPD media Relations said this shooting was gang-related.
Later, at around 3:30 a.m. this morning, a Latino man in his 30s was near 1st and Soto streets in Boyle Heights when he was approached by a dark sedan. After some words were exchanged, a passenger got out of the car and shot at the victim multiple times, striking him once in the abdomen.
The victim was transported to the hospital by a private party, and is in critical condition.
Police said they do not know whether this second shooting was also gang-related.
