What exactly is throwback ice cream? According to Eater LA, Eastsiders will find out this fall with the coming of Butter’s Ice Cream in Silver Lake. The ice cream shop plans to sell flavors that pay homage to the fashion of the late ’80s early ’90s. Construction is currently underway. Expect Butter’s Ice Cream to open this fall. Butter’s Ice Cream will be located in the 2900 block of Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake.

In other Shopper & Diner News:

  • Los Cinco Puntos in Boyle Heights serves up not-your-typical L.A. taco, LA Weekly reports. Rather than eating the taco with your hands, most people eat them with a fork. That’s because their tacos come wrapped in a thick tortilla packed with guacamole, meat, nopales and salsa. Tortas, carne asada, homemade tortillas and enough guacamole to serve an army are also some of its specialties. Los Cinco Puntos is located in the 3300 block of E. Cesar Chavez in Boyle Heights.
  • Former Go Get Em Tiger chef Ria Dolly Barbosa has set up shop at Forage Café in Silver Lake, Eater LA reports. Don’t expect any major changes, though. Forage will still be Forage and the restaurant’s concept will remain. The shift comes with the arrival of Barbosa’s know-how and her own sourcing. Forage is located in the 3800 block of Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake.
  • Jugos Azteca has survived the gentrification happening in Highland Park – not by joining the hipster ranks, but by staying true to its roots of serving fresh juices at a reasonable price, the L.A. Times reports. Now in its twenty-first year in business, the tiny juice shop has attracted more customers with its videos on @jugos_azteca posted by owner Efrain Peña. It surely can’t be missed, with its neon green color and bold advertisements promoting its tortas, jugos and tostadas. Jugos Azteca is located in the 5200 block of York Boulevard in Highland Park.
