Some of the candidates running for the 51st Assembly District
There have been several elections — city, state, federal –over the past year but another is coming up next Tuesday, Oct. 3 for California’s 51st Assembly District,. By the time 2017 is over, this year’s extended election season means that some Eastside voters might have gone to the polls six times to cast ballots in primary and runoff elections.
Next week’s special election was called after former Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for California’s 34th District. Gomez was the winner of a special election to replace Xavier Becerra, who left Congress to become Attorney General of California.

With 13 candidates competing to represent the 51st, a runoff election — yes, another one — is likely to happen on Dec. 5.
The contenders (see the list below) include a dermatologist, an Echo Park man who was wrongly imprisoned, and a woman who ran for Congress just last April.

Ron Birnbaum has my vote! He is the closest to Sanders with his Universal health care and has a plan! He is the only candidate for public education. He will take action for the environment and acknowledges climate change is real and is mainly caused by fossil fuels and greenhouse gasses.
Most importantly, go vote on Tuesday!!
