L.A. school board president resigns from post; costs rising for Sixth Street Bridge park; L.A. median home price hits record high in August

  • Ref Rodriguez has resigned as L.A. school board president one week after he was charged with violating campaign fundraising laws. However, Rodriguez, who grew up in Cypress Park, will remain on the school board representing District 5, which includes all or portions of Atwater Village, Eagle Rock, East L.A., Echo Park, Highland Park, Silver Lake and other communities.  L.A.   • Councilman Jose Huizar is seeking to use $2 million in redevelopment funds to help pay for the rising cost to build parkland and recreation fields in Boyle Heights and the Arts District under the new Sixth Street Bridge.   • The median price of homes sold in L.A. County in August rose 9.4% from the same month last year to a record high of $580,000. The number of homes sold also increased, rising 4.2% to 7,985 properties. L.A. Times
