Highland Park cafe caters to the cycling set

HIGHLAND PARK – Coffee and biking go together like … well, coffee and anything, really. So another quick eatery has opened up to focus on cyclists.

À Bloc has set up on York Boulevard, billing itself as “a coffee bar and cycling centric retail experience, ”  reports Eater L.A. The narrow menu is heavy on coffee choices and the kind of light fare that gets you through a marathon bike ride – oatmeal with almonds, coconut and dried cranberries, for example, or a curried jackfruit sandwich with raisins, sunflower seeds and red onions.

In this highly specialized market, À Bloc follows Spoke Bicycle Cafe in Frogtown, where you can get your biked fix along  the L.A. River walking and bike path and also order hemp-date granola, smashed blackberry-and-goat-cheese toast, and, of course, small-batch L.A.-roasted coffee.

À Bloc, the new entrant in this bicycle-cafe race, is located at 5025 York Blvd.
