Firefighters rescue Highland Park family’s Thanksgiving dinner; Black Friday campout in Atwater Village; short-term rental concerns

Thanksgiving Rescued:  After a Highland Park family lost their Thanksgiving dinner when their oven burst into flame, firefighters from Station No. 12 provided a holiday meal to replace the one lost in the fire. Fox 11

Black Friday: One family slept in a tent outside the Atwater Village  Best Buy for three days in hopes of  scoring Black Friday deals and capturing “the shopping spirit.”  L.A. Times

Short-Term Stays: Some landlords are taking advantage of an obscure law that permits them to rent out apartments and condominiums  to overnight guests, a practice that removes the units from the rental market and worsens the housing shortage, advocates say. L.A. Times

Holiday Closures: Most city and county offices  — including libraries — will be closed today, Friday, Nov. 24, as part of the Thanksgiving holiday.  City trash collection normally scheduled for Friday will be delayed by one day.
