LOS FELIZ– A casual Mexican is apparently replacing the once ambitious but short lived Mare restaurant on Hyperion Avenue, Eater LA reports.
Over the years, the same spot on the border of Los Feliz and and Silver Lake has been home to Zen Sushi, Barbarella and Mare, the pan-Mediterranean restaurant that closed a few months after opening in February.
The new restaurant, Mi Corazon, will be an offshoot of its sister restaurant in Glendale, where it has been serving casual Mexican fare, with large plate classics such as flautas, burritos and tacos made from organic ingredients. Heading the operation is Jeremy Swan, a longtime tattoo artist and Los Feliz resident who gained fame repairing some of the body art on TLC’s TV Show “America’s Worst Tattoos.”
The departed restaurant, Mare, was the last in a chain featuring seafood dishes. It started as a back-patio restaurant along Melrose Avenue, and grew to three restaurants. But none turned out to be sustainable.
An opening day for Mi Corazon has not yet been announced. But when the flautas start flying out of the kitchen, it will be at 2609 Hyperion.
