69-year-old woman dies after being hit by a truck in Boyle Heights

BOYLE HEIGHTS — A big-rig truck driver struck and killed a 69-year-old woman standing near her RV on Thursday night and then fled the scene without helping the victim, police said.

Cynthia Szukala, 69, was outside her motor home parked in the 3700 block of Union Pacific Avenue in an industrial area when an 18-wheel tractor trailer truck hit her shortly before 10 pm, the LAPD Central Traffic Division said in a statement.  Szukala suffered severe blunt force trauma and was declared dead at the scene

The driver of the truck drove away eastbound on Union Pacific without assisting the victim.

City News Service reports that the woman may have been looking for a pet when she was run over by the truck.
