Councilman challenges rules to close L.A. River for e.coli; Atwater Village Tree Lighting Festival finds new home

L.A. River: 13th District Councilman Mitch O’Farrell rejected a new set of rules that would close the L.A. River to kayaking and other forms of recreation when harmful levels of e. coli bacteria are detected in the water. The councilman, who says the rules were developed without sufficient input, wants sanitation officials to confer with kayaking companies to come up with a new proposal to close the river when high levels of bacteria are detected. Tree Lighting: An Atwater Village restaurant has agreed to host the annual Atwater Village Christmas Tree Lighting Festival in its parking lot after the adjacent Wells Fargo Bank said  its lot would no longer be available. Los Feliz Ledger
