East L.A. shooting leaves one victim in critical condition

East L.A. shooting on Rowan Avenue

EAST LOS ANGELES — One person was left in critical condition after he was shot Monday afternoon in the 100 block of Rowan Avenue, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

The shooting took place at about 3:19 pm, said Sgt. Gonzalez at the East L.A. Sheriff’s Station. The victim was described as being in critical condition when he was transported to a hospital. Some social media accounts said the victim had died but Gonzalez said he could not verify that and had no information about the victim’s condition this morning.

Some residents have described the shooting as a drive-by but that was not the case, Gonzalez said. He had no further information about the shooting, including whether it was gang related.

The shooting prompted the closure of Rowan near 1st Street for several hours on Monday.
