Trash fire sends thick smoke over Echo Park

ECHO PARK —   A thick plume of black smoke that rose above the southern edge of Echo Park this afternoon was the result of a rubbish and or tree fire, said the L.A. Fire Department.  The blaze near Bixel and Court streets was handled without incident, according to an LAFD spokesman.
