SILVER LAKE — There is no shortage of yoga studios in this and surrounding neighborhoods. There’s One Dog Down, Still Yoga, Roam, Silverlake Yoga – just to name a few. But into this crowded field comes Y7 Studio, The New York-based “original hip-hop yoga studio” that has opened a West Coast flagship in a former Sunset Boulevard auto repair shop.
The former garage where Toyotas and Lexuses underwent repair has been sheathed in sheets of black metal and its interior turned into a candlelit yoga studio. The a 2,500-square-foot studio’s offerings include a 2-hour, sweaty “Mega De Tox,” Vinyasa classes, flexibility workshops, meditation and sound sessions as well as Hip Hop Wednesday and Hip Hop Sunday.
Sarah Levey, co-founder of Y7, said her firm has long wanted to open a studio in Silver Lake. “There are so many inspiring brands around and the community is incredibly warm and welcoming,” she said in an email.
How is Y7 going to set itself apart from the numerous other yoga studios?
“At Y7 we practice in a dark, candle lit room, with no mirrors, infrared heating, and sequencing driven by the beat of the music,” said Levey. “We’ve created an intimate yet empowering space for people to focus on their own practice without the distraction.”
Y7 Studio is at 4300 Sunset Boulevard.
