Transit: Ridership on Metro bus and trains continued to drop last year, dragging reported trips down to the lowest levels in a decade. Bus ridership alone has fallen about 20% during the last five years. It’s not certain what’s behind the decline but officials have blamed the drop on everything from competing ride-sharing services to the issuance of state drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants. Fashion: A new spring ready-to-wear collection by designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais was inspired by the work of Echo Park artist Peter Shire, one of the prominent American members of the Memphis art movement during the 1980s. “We’re always looking at iconic L.A. things and we saw the Peter Shire show at MOCA about the Memphis movement, said Wolk. “He was the only Memphis designer who was not Italian and he was from Los Angeles, so when we saw the patterns and colors and combinations in that show that was completely inspiring for us.” WWD & Vogue
Dodgers: The Dodgers will install more safety netting behind the home plate area to protect fans from foul balls. More than a dozen other teams are also expanding the use of netting in light of new league regulations and the serious injury sustained last year by a 3-year-old girl who was hit by a foul ball at Yankee Stadium.
