WTF? Marc Maron moving out of Highland Park garage studio; drug dealer convicted in 2001 Elysian Park killing; 710 Freeway widening rejected

Moving Out: Comedian Marc Maron, who has produced 900 episodes of his WTF podcast in his Highland Park garage, is moving to new and larger digs. But don’t worry, Maron, who interviewed Barack Obama during one show, will be recording podcasts in a different garage in a larger, two-story Craftsman home 10-minutes away from his current location, said The New York Times. What prompted the change? “It started to look like a sad roadside attraction,” Maron told the New York Times of his crowded garage. “Dust and cobwebs. People were going to be like: This is weird and gross.”

Conviction: A drug dealer was convicted in the 2001 murder of a 13-year-old runaway who was raped and shot in Elysian Park, where her body was found by a hiker.  Prosecutors said that Jorge Palacios, a member of the notorious  Mara Salvatrucha gang,  told gang members to “get rid” of Jacqueline Piazza after she was beaten  in Westlake.  Palacios faces life in prison without parole.  Trials are also being held for three other suspects believed to be involved in the killing.  L.A. Freeway: Metro’s board rejected a staff recommendation to add a lane in each direction on the 710 Freeway between Long Beach and East Los Angeles.  Instead, the board voted in favor of pursuing more modest changes to the roadway to deal with heavy truck traffic. Widening the freeway would have cost $6 billion and displaced about 400 residents and 158 businesses. My News LA

Power Out: LADWP was reporting several power outages this morning as a storm moved into the area. More than 1,400 customers in East Hollywood and about 2,700 customers in Highland Park were without power, according to the agency’s website. Service is expected to restored throughout the day.

Freeway Crash: One person was transported to a hospital in unknown condition early this morning after being extricated from a vehicle that drove off the northbound 5 Freeway near the 2 Freeway. LAFD

  1. Great NYT story/pics about Marc Maron’s old/new digs. Ten minutes from his HP garage? That could be lots of places! Hope you can score a coup and find out where that is!
