High winds send Cypress Park tree crashing on car with mother and son

Cypress Park — There are many broken branches and fallen palm fronts that needed to be cleaned up today after Thursday’s high winds. No major damage to report on the Eastside, but one woman and her adult son had a close call in Cypress Park, where a tree fell on her car shortly after she pulled out of the driveway on Elm Street, reports ABC 7.

The car’s windows were smashed but the passengers suffered only minor bruising.

Meanwhile, in El Sereno, a large ficus toppled over on Eastern Avenue, causing some trouble for motorists but no reports of injuries.  There were also sporadic power outages reported in Boyle Heights and several other neighborhoods.
