Low hanging banner causing Echo Park traffic tie up; Sunset Boulevard shut down

Echo Park  — Sunset Boulevard was closed off this morning in both directions apparently because a low-hanging street banner.

Traffic was tied up on Sunset, with cars, trucks and buses taking detours through side streets.

The banner for a school is located on Sunset near Laveta Terrace.

    The street was not closed because of a low hanging banner! It was closed because the huge light pole that the banner was tied to became unanchored in the high wind that morning, and was going to fall over and could have potentially killed someone if it did. DWP had to re-bolt and stabilize it.

  2. Hi We checked with LAPD and LAFD to find out what happened but they were not aware of the problem when called. Since we often report events as they happen, sometimes not all the information is available.
