Silver Lake  — Sandy Driscoll, who has been photographing a hummingbird nest in her backyard, today provides an update and a new photo of the pair of baby hummers, their beaks poking out of the small nest. Looks like Sandy will be an empty nester soon:

“I figure they must be almost 3 weeks old. They are healthy and can now barely fit in the nest. They should be ready to fly within a week. I will miss them!”

Here are some of Sandy’s earlier photos:

  1. Thanks so much for sharing this! Amazing photos! Made my day!

  2. The beautiful light on the baby hummer’s face is really striking – and illuminates all the detail. What a journey – looking forward to the first flight if Sandy can possibly catch that!

  3. Thanks for the follow-up picture, Sandy and Eastsider!

  4. Nice one Sandy!
