Echo Park — In a neighborhood where you can buy vegan cinnamon rolls, ice cream and pizza, what’s missing from Echo Park’s vegan scene? If you said cheesecake, you’ll be happy to hear a “dessert boutique” is in the process of opening on Sunset Boulevard.
The shop, called Solar Return, will sell raw vegan cheesecakes featuring a rainbow of colors and psychedelic designs by Stephen McCarty, according to the store’s website. In addition, Solar Return will also be stocked with vintage wear, handmade clothing and “cosmic” gifts from Prism of Threads, a collection by Tracy Conti McCarty.

The combination of selling vegan cheesecakes and vintage wear and gifts in one shop might seem a bit odd. But a posting on the Solar Return website explains how things will work:
“From birthdays to baby showers, weddings to holidays, these moments that bring us together call for a ceremonial cake to gift to your loved ones or your self! Prism of Threads’ collection of wearable art mirrors these cake creations to live a life adorned by unique and handmade expressions. Our shared vision is a sustainable Earth where our clothing is not disposable and our food is sacred.”The husband-and-wife team plan to open this month right next door to Konbi, the Japanese-style sandwich shop.
Solar Return will be at 1461 1/2 Sunset Blvd. near Portia St.
