Boyle Heights police pursuit ends with suspects in custody; one suspect was run over [updated]

Boyle Heights —  A police pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle this afternoon ended with a crash and five persons in custody, including a suspect who was run over, police said.

Details of what exactly happened this afternoon remain unclear. However, the brief chase of an older model, burgundy-colored vehicle that began around noon ended near Evergreen Avenue and Ganahl Street, said LAPD spokesman Tony Im.

Police sealed off the area before they captured three of the five suspects who fled on foot through the neighborhood.  Another  suspect was detained at gunpoint, said Im. The remaining suspect was run over, he said.

Im did not have information about how the suspect was run over. But Simply Informed, a Twitter user who tracks police scanner reports, said one of the suspects was under the vehicle when it rolled over.

Update: KABC 7, citing different police sources, said that the vehicle being pursued hit a parked car. As one of the suspects was surrendering to police, the stolen vehicle rolled back and over the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the police scanner comments.
